Aeromexico unveils two new European routes to Paris and Barcelona
Aeromexico last flew from Mexico City to Barcelona just before the pandemic.
Aeromexico has announced that during the upcoming summer 2026 season, it will begin – and return to – flying from Mexico City and Monterrey to Barcelona and Paris, expanding its transatlantic offering.
On November 10, 2025, Aeromexico stated that from March 28, 2026, it would return to flying between Mexico City International Airport (MEX) and Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN). Operated with a Boeing 787 (most likely the 787-9), the six-per-week itinerary underlined the airline’s “commitment to the Mexico – Spain market,” it said.
Aeromexico had served MEX-BCN between December 2007 and January 2012, and then between June 2019 and April 2020, Cirium’s Diio Mi showed. Currently, the only other airline flying the route is Emirates, which offers a one-stop itinerary that originates at Dubai International Airport (DXB), flight EK 255/EK 256.
The Mexican carrier said it plans to offer up to 40 weekly flights between the country and Spain, which includes its flights to Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD), served via MEX, Monterrey International Airport (MTY), and Guadalajara International Airport (GDL), during the upcoming summer season.

In addition, from April 13, 2026, Aeromexico will launch flights between MTY and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), served three times per week. The route, also operated with a 787, will complement the airline’s daily MEX-CDG service.
During the summer 2025 season, Aeromexico flew between MEX and CDG up to 10 times per week, with current schedules showing that the frequency of daily flights on the route will remain throughout the warmer months of the year, possibly pointing out where Aeromexico will source capacity to operate flights between MTY and CDG.
Planespotters.net records indicated that the Mexican airline has not taken delivery of a new 787 since July 2024, when it welcomed a 787-9, registered as N748AM.
“The new Paris flight will enhance northern Mexico’s access to Europe through convenient connections with Aeromexico’s SkyTeam partners at Charles de Gaulle Airport.”
Per Cirium’s Diio Mi, in April 2026, Aeromexico currently has 13 fewer weekly departures operated by 787 aircraft from Mexico, including the removal of four weekly departures from MEX to Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) and three fewer weekly hops between MTY and MEX.
No other 787-operated routes have gained more weekly departures so far. However, the schedules can still change.
“These additions mean the airline will increase its seat capacity to Europe by 11% vs. the previous year, resulting in Aeromexico’s largest ever European schedule.”
Giancarlo Mulinelli, the Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Aeromexico, said that the airline was excited to expand its transatlantic network in 2026 by “reintroducing the link between Mexico City and Barcelona, and providing a new option to bring Monterrey and Europe closer via Paris.”
“These services are part of our strategy to meet the growing demand between Mexico and Europe.”
In addition to transatlantic and transpacific services, Aeromexico’s 787s are also scheduled to fly to two United States airports, New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), in April 2026.
However, with its joint venture (JV) with Delta Air Lines in limbo, that could very well change. After the Department of Transportation (DOT) ordered the two to dismantle their partnership by January 1, 2026, the pair sued, later arguing that they were likely to win, which is why the court should suspend the DOT’s order until court proceedings are over.
