Air Canada has announced that starting in June 2026, it will begin using its Airbus A321XLR aircraft on seasonal flights from Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI).

The Canadian carrier, which has up to 30 A321XLRs on order, said that PMI would be the first destination its A321XLR will be flying to, starting on June 17, 2026. The seasonal itineraries, operated four times per week, would run until October 23, 2026.

According to Mark Galardo, the Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), and President of Cargo at Air Canada, the first delivery of the A321XLR, scheduled for Q1 2026, will mark the airline’s “next phase of international growth.”

“This revolutionary narrowbody aircraft unlocks new, exciting global opportunities with its widebody range and enhanced onboard product.”

Flying between YUL and PMI was made possible by the A321XLR’s unique capabilities, enabling Air Canada to become the first Canadian carrier to offer flights to the Spanish Island, located in the Mediterranean Sea, it said.

The only other North American airline that has flown to PMI is United Airlines, which began its Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to PMI route in June 2022. The seasonal connection started out at thrice-weekly departures, growing to four during this summer season. United Airlines’ schedules showed that it plans to continue flying the route in 2026, operating flights between EWR and PMI with a Boeing 767-400ER, according to Cirium’s Diio Mi.

Both Air Canada and United Airlines are part of Star Alliance and the A++ transatlantic joint venture.

Flights from YUL to PMI are already on sale. The airline’s booking engine showed that its A321XLRs will have 14 lie-flat business class seats, 36 Preferred Seats, and 132 economy class seats, totaling 182.

However, the airline's booking engine also indicated that three out of the six economy class seats on row 39 are not selectable by passengers.

Compared to regular economy class seats, Air Canada’s Preferred Seats include an “adjustable and foldable headrest for a better sleeping position” and “curated selection of complimentary beverages.”

The cabin includes three lavatories and three galleys, with one at the front and two at the back each. Behind the business class cabin, there are two closets, while two Preferred Seats have bassinet facilities, which are “assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability at time of flight departure.”

The carrier added that its A321XLRs would also take over flights from YUL to Edinburgh Airport (EDI) and Toulouse Blagnac Airport (TLS) in 2026. In August 2025, the two routes from YUL were served with the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 787-8 or 787-9, respectively, Cirium’s Diio Mi showed.

With further A321XLR deliveries, of which it plans to have 10 in 2026, Air Canada would add “more exciting routes from” Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), Ottawa International Airport (YOW), and Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ).
