On September 4, 2025, Alaska Airlines has announced that starting today, its passengers can book direct flights between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and Reykjavik Keflavik International Airport (KEF), which will begin on May 28, 2026.

The daily seasonal services between SEA and KEF will begin on May 28, 2026, and end on September 8, 2026, with the last return flight from Iceland to Seattle, the United States. Alaska Airlines will operate the itinerary with its Boeing 737 MAX 8s, which will include a refreshed First Class dining experience and its first-ever complimentary Premium Class Snack Basket offered on flights over 670 miles (1,078 kilometers).

Speaking of distances, the great-circle distance from SEA to KEF is 5,830 km (3,147 nautical miles), while Boeing’s advertised range for the 737 MAX 8 is 6,480 km (3,500 nmi).

Icelandair, which currently has three daily flights from SEA to KEF, namely flight FI680, FI682, and FI864, operates flight FI684 with a 737 MAX 8. Over the past few weeks, Icelandair’s flight times from SEA to KEF ranged between around six hours and 45 minutes and around 7 hours and 15 minutes.

Alaska Airlines’ Premium Class is the carrier’s premium economy cabin, which on the 737 MAX 8, offers 30 bigger seats, with post-retrofit aircraft of the type also welcoming 16 First Class and 115 Economy Class passengers. Pre-retrofit 737 MAX 8 cabins featured 12 First Class, 30 Premium Class, and 117 Economy Class seats.

Alaska Airlines also highlighted the fact that through its partnership with Icelandair, which is based at KEF, its customers will have access to “more than 35 daily departures from the country’s capital to Europe, making it easier than ever for guests to continue their journey across the continent.”

“We’re excited to offer greater convenience, flexibility, and a smoother travel experience with Alaska’s new and enhanced bilateral codeshare agreement with Icelandair, enabling guests to book itineraries that combine flights from both airlines under a single ticket.”

Passengers flying between SEA and KEF will not only enjoy complimentary WiFi – in August 2025, Alaska Airlines announced its selection of Starlink for its internet services, while Hawaiian Airlines began offering Starlink services to passengers in February 2024 – but also access to Icelandair’s Saga Lounge at the Icelandic airport.

However, lounge access is limited to First Class passengers or those with Atmos Rewards Gold, Platinum, or Titanium elite status.

Alaska Airlines initially announced its services to KEF on August 13, 2025, when the airline also unveiled its planned connection from SEA to London Heathrow Airport (LHR), beginning sometime in spring 2026. In addition, the company also showcased its new livery that would be present on all of its Boeing 787-9s, including those that were previously painted in Hawaiian Airlines’ colors.

Personally, without Chester on the tail, it looks like a fancier gradient, that is, sure, inspired by Northern Lights, but it is still pretty basic. It is meh.

KEF is another international destination that Alaska Airlines has announced or has already started flying to since closing its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines in September 2024. The list includes the aforementioned LHR, Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO, beginning in May 2026), Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT, has begun on May 12, 2025), and Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN, beginning on September 12, 2025).
