STARLUX Airlines' ascension into oneworld seems to be imminent.

Alaska Airlines and STARLUX Airlines have announced that the two airlines have expanded their codeshare agreement to include 12 additional cities, expanding the reach of the partnership to the benefit of United States and Taiwan-based travelers.

On September 30, 2025, the two airlines said that the expanded codeshare agreement will now include additional destinations from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO), ultimately resulting in STARLUX Airlines’ passengers being able to reach 20 destinations in the US via Alaska Airlines’ domestic network.

From SFO, the new addition to the codeshare agreement is Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), while from SEA, there are 11 additional airports that are a one-stop hop away for the Taiwanese carrier’s customers, including Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC), Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), and others.

The new codeshare routes are displayed below:

According to STARLUX Airlines, the dozen new additions will complement the pair’s current codeshare network in the US, which includes, per Cirium’s Diio Mi, the following routes from SEA:

The Taiwanese airline emphasized that US travelers, flying across the Pacific Ocean while utilizing the partnership, gain access to its premium service and growing network across Asia, making Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) “a launchpad for travel across the region.”

Alaska Airlines, which concluded its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines in September 2024, has also launched services to other Asian cities, namely Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN) and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT).

This will be Alaska Airlines’ second post-merger long-haul international route.

Glenn Chai, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of STARLUX Airlines, said that Alaska Airlines has always been an important partner of the airline, noting that the “new chapter in our partnership not only strengthens our North American network, but also gives travelers more flexibility and efficiency when flying to Taipei and beyond.”

In addition to its new codeshare routes, the TPE-based airline highlighted that with the launch of its flights to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), its passengers would also gain “access to American Airlines’ extensive domestic network to connect to more destinations across the Americas.” Services to PHX should launch on January 16, 2026, initially served thrice-weekly, and growing to four times per week starting in March 2026.

If that is not an admission that STARLUX Airlines is inching closer toward joining oneworld, I do not know what is.

And it should be an admission, as according to Focus Taiwan, STARLUX Airlines is going to apply to join that airline alliance by the end of 2025.

Nevertheless, for Alaska Airlines, which, since the acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines, has looked to develop its international network from SEA, an expanded partnership with STARLUX Airlines brings even more potential passengers who not only would like to fly on its connections from the airport to ICN or NRT, but also from TPE and beyond.

According to Cirium’s Diio Mi, STARLUX Airlines has scheduled flights to 24 Asian destinations in September 2025.

Another boost to SEA-to-Asia connectivity will be the return of Cathay Pacific, which said that starting March 30, 2026, it would offer five direct flights from the US airport to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).

Cathay Pacific is also a member of oneworld, and so is Japan Airlines, which has scheduled daily departures from SEA to NRT in September 2025. Overall, the airline alliance has 235 weekly departures from the continental US to Asia during the month, yet is concentrated to seven destinations in the latter: Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), HKG, Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND), ICN, Kansai International Airport (KIX), NRT, and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG).
