Eindhoven Airport (EIN), the Netherlands’ second-busiest airport, will be temporarily closing operations for runway renovations in 2027. While the airport is mostly reserved for leisure and/or low-cost carriers, many of the operators currently flying there will see minimal impact to their networks, except Transavia.

Cirium’s Diio Mi showed that between February and July 2026, seven operators – two belonging to the same group – will fly out of EIN. Out of the six, which includes TUI fly Belgium and TUI fly Netherlands, only Transavia and TUI’s two Benelux subsidiaries have more than 1% of their total capacity flying from EIN during the six-month period.

However, the runway renovations could dent the Netherlands’ overall connectivity during the 5-and-a-half-month period when EIN’s runway will undergo renovations, given the slot situation at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS).

Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTM), another Dutch airport, also has slots, which have not changed between the summer 2025 and summer 2026 seasons, remaining at 11,608 for both periods.

AMS’ capacity had not changed between the summer 2025 and the summer 2026 seasons as well.

Slots at all three Dutch airports are overseen by Airport Coordination Netherlands (ACNL).

In its annual report, Royal Schiphol Group, which holds a 51% stake in the company that manages EIN, stated that the airport “is investigating alternative locations for flights” during the period when EIN will be closed.

Royal Schiphol Group also noted that Lelystad Airport (LEY), located around 60 kilometers (37.2 miles) to the northeast of Amsterdam, will welcome commercial flights in 2027, focused on leisure traffic.

In addition to the runway being renovated, EIN will also install a Category 3 instrument landing system (ILS), “enabling aircraft to land in very dense fog.”

The airport is also undergoing terminal renovations, with the Royal Schiphol Group estimating that EIN’s renovated and expanded terminal “is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2027.”

“This expansion has become increasingly important, as the number of passengers has surpassed the terminal’s capacity of five million.”
