ITA Airways’ schedules have confirmed that the Italian carrier, which is now part of the Lufthansa Group, is no longer planning to operate the Airbus A330-200 aircraft in 2026, with the type’s final flight being scheduled on December 31.

On December 31, 2025, ITA Airways will operate its last A330-200 flights, with the aircraft, registered as EI-EJH, being scheduled to fly between Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) on that day, per Cirium’s Diio Mi.

Currently, at the time of publishing, the A330-200 is on its way from FCO to New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), according to Flightradar24.

ITA Airways’ other two A330-200s, registered as EI-EJG and EI-EJP, have been stored at FCO. EI-EJG operated its last flight on November 15, when it arrived in the Italian capital on flight AZ 673 from Rio de Janeiro Galeao International Airport (GIG), while EI-EJP last carried passengers on November 2, when it operated flight AZ 769 from Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) to FCO.

The Italian carrier – or yet another iteration of Alitalia – inherited the A330-200s from its predecessor, the Alitalia that ceased operations in 2021. Planespotters.net showed that in addition to the one active and two stored widebodies of the type, the airline had another five A330-200s, which left its fleet between September 2023 and October 2025.

The first A330-200 that left its fleet, registered as EI-DIP, was scrapped at St. Athan Airport (DGX) in the United Kingdom, while another, EI-EJK, was converted into a freighter and is now operated by Mexico-based Awesome Cargo.

Meanwhile, EI-EJL is currently operated by Hi Fly Malta, which has wet leased the aircraft to Israel’s Arkia Airlines to fly to the United States and other international markets. EI-EJM should join the fleet of Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras (Azul), per planespotters.net, and EI-EJO is currently stored at Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport (AUH).

At the same time as ITA Airways has been slowly retiring its A330-200s, the Italian carrier has been welcoming A330-900s, one of the successors of the A330ceo. In total, the airline now has 12 A330-900 aircraft, eight of which Airbus delivered between October 2023 and November 2025.

The carrier’s A330-900s have 30 business, 24 premium economy, and 237 economy class seats, while its A330-200s can seat up to 20 business, 17 premium economy, and 219 economy class passengers.

At least five other A330-900 aircraft should join the airline’s fleet in the coming months, including I-ITYF, which operated its first flight on December 1.

ITA Airways firmed up its order for 10 A330-900 aircraft in December 2021, with the order also including seven A220 and A321neo jets. A few months prior, Air Lease Corporation (ALC) announced that it would lease 15 A220, two A320neo, nine A321neo, and five A330-900 aircraft from its order book to ITA Airways.

Finally, on April 1, 2022, AerCap unveiled that the Italian carrier would lease 10 A320neo and two A330-900s from the lessor. At the time, AerCap said that the aircraft would be delivered to ITA Airways between 2023 and 2024.

According to Airbus’ latest order and delivery filings, as of November 30, the European planemaker had delivered five A330-900 aircraft to ITA Airways, meaning that the remaining five widebodies that it is scheduled to welcome are from the airline’s order book.
