American Airlines and Porter Airlines launch codeshare partnership
The codeshare agreement between the two airlines could expand to include loyalty benefits and even further destinations.

American Airlines and Porter Airlines have announced that they have launched a codeshare partnership, providing more options for both airlines’ customers to travel between Canada and the United States.
On September 29, 2025, American Airlines and Porter Airlines began codesharing on select transborder and domestic routes, including the former carrier’s core hubs in the US, such as Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), and others.
Edmond Eldebs, the Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Porter Airlines, said that the codeshare partnership with American Airlines provides a true and competitive alternative for passengers looking for more options to fly between Canada and the US.
“By initially combining Porter’s growing Canadian network with American’s extensive reach in the U.S. and southern destinations, we are offering improved connectivity, in combination with Porter’s commitment to high-quality service.”
The statement indicated that both airlines will “continue to evaluate opportunities to expand this relationship further through expanded codeshare destinations and loyalty benefits.”
“Additional destinations and loyalty program integration is intended for future phases of the partnership, including earning and redeeming points on each airline.”
From September 29, 2025, Porter Airlines will place its designator code 'P3' on American Airlines flights to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), ORD, DFW, and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), and onwards connections from these hubs.
In the future, seven other codeshare destinations, displayed below, will be available for sale for Porter Airlines’ customers:

American Airlines also noted that the codeshare agreements’ route network will include its south-bound network, which includes airports in the Caribbean, Central America and South America.
From American Airlines’ passengers’ perspective, the carrier’s 'AA' designator code will be present on select Porter Airlines’ routes from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), including Edmonton International Airport (YEG), Halifax International Airport (YHZ), Ottawa International Airport (YOW), Victoria International Airport (YYJ), and Winnipeg International Airport (YWG).
In the coming weeks, the codeshare network will be supplemented by a further six destinations: Calgary International Airport (YYC), Charlottetown Airport (YYG), Kelowna International Airport (YLW), St. John's International Airport (YYT), Saskatoon International Airport (YXE), and Vancouver International Airport (YVR).

In addition to the domestic itineraries, Porter Airlines will also display American Airlines’ designator code on its transborder hop between YYZ and Pheonix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).
According to the statement, American Airlines has the busiest schedule out of all US-based carriers from the US to YYZ with more than 25 peak daily flights. Cirium’s Diio Mi showed that in September 2025, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines trail American Airlines with up to 23 and 22 peak daily departures from the US to YYZ.
Cirium’s Diio Mi also indicated that American Airlines serves six destinations in Canada this month, including YYZ, Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL), YVR, YYC, YQB, and YHZ.
Two other Canadian airlines, Air Canada and WestJet, have close and/or very close ties with United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, respectively. Air Canada and United Airlines, together with Lufthansa Group airlines, are part of the A++ joint venture (JV), while Delta Air Lines, together with Korean Air, have invested a total of $550 million for a 15% and 10% stake in WestJet, respectively.
