Royal Air Maroc gets no objections to launch Los Angeles flights
Royal Air Maroc plans to launch flights to Los Angeles in June 2026.
Royal Air Maroc, which had filed a request with the Department of Transportation (DOT), has confirmed that no United States-based airline had objected to its planned route launch between Casablanca, Morocco, and Los Angeles, the US.
In a filing that was published on November 26, 2025, Royal Air Maroc’s counsel informed the DOT that after polling US-based airlines, it “has received no objections from all the carriers,” asking the Department to “approve the application” due to the absence of any objections from US airlines.
Royal Air Maroc initially applied to launch flights between Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport (CMN) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on November 21, “respectfully” asking the DOT to “expeditiously facilitate marketing and advance sales of [Royal Air Maroc’s] proposed Los Angeles service.”
The initial period of services would be two years, it said, or for a longer period, if the DOT allows it to do so.

“Royal Air Maroc plans to begin service to Los Angeles in June 2026, and it hopes to initiate sales and advertising activities immediately upon receipt of all required government approvals. Accordingly, it respectfully requests that the Department grant the necessary exemption authority as soon as possible.”
The airline highlighted that if approved, it would be the first time that CMN and LAX would be connected with a direct flight, and would complement the carrier’s other services between CMN and the US.
Cirium’s Diio Mi data showed that in June 2026, Royal Air Maroc is scheduled to be the only airline to fly between Morocco and the US, with the Moroccan carrier offering flights from CMN to Miami International Airport (MIA), New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
In November 2025, and during the remainder of the winter season, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines also offer flights from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK).
(Delta Air Lines’ ATL-RAK seasonal flights are scheduled to continue until May 19, 2026.)
Royal Air Maroc’s November 21 filing indicated that its LAX flights, with CMN to LAX being a 5,205 nautical mile (9,639 kilometer) journey, would be operated with either a Boeing 787-8 or 787-9.
According to planespotters.net, Royal Air Maroc has five 787-8 and six 787-9 aircraft in its fleet. During the Dubai Airshow in November 2023, it ordered two additional 787-9s.
“[Royal Air Maroc’s] forty-year history of operating successful service to the U.S. demonstrates that it is fully qualified to operate the Los Angeles service for which authority is requested here.”
