WestJet Orders Up To 85 Boeing 737 MAX 10 And 11 787-9 Aircraft
This order has extended WestJet's fleet growth plans through 2034.

WestJet has announced that the airline made its largest-ever aircraft order with Boeing. The Canadian airline purchased 60 737 MAX 10 and seven 787-9 aircraft, with the purchase agreement including 25 and four options, respectively.
On September 3, 2025, WestJet unveiled that its fleet growth plan through 2034 has been secured with its latest Boeing order, which includes up to a total of 96 aircraft, split between 60 737 MAX 10 (plus 25 options) and seven 787-9s (plus four options).
With the latest deal, WestJet’s current order book now stands at 123 aircraft and 40 options. According to Boeing’s orders and deliveries site, as of July 31, 2025, WestJet had 58 unfilled orders for the 737 MAX, split between 737 MAX 8s and 737 MAX 10 aircraft.
In September 2022, WestJet ordered 42 737 MAX 10s with 22 options.
However, none have been delivered since Boeing has yet to certify the 737 MAX 10 – and its smaller brother, the 737 MAX 7. During the planemaker’s Q2 2025 earnings call, Kelly Ortberg, the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Boeing, updated that both uncertified 737 MAX models would be certified in 2026.
“On 737-7 and 737-10, we continue to mature the technical solutions for engine anti-ice and certification path for the 737 MAX family derivatives,” Ortberg said, adding that work on the system is taking longer than expected, which is why the two models’ certification would now happen in 2026.
Its current fleet consists of 56 737 MAX 8 and seven 787-9 aircraft, per planespotters.net. In addition, it has another 36 737-700 and 58 737-800s, as well as 39 De Havilland Canada DHC Dash 8 Q400 turboprops, with the latter operating under the WestJet Encore brand.
Stephanie Pope, the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, remarked that the planemaker is excited to support “WestJet's exciting growth as they leverage the 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner to serve even more guests with great efficiency and comfort.”
Meanwhile, Alexis von Hoensbroech, the CEO of WestJet, highlighted that with this order, the airline now has the largest order book out of all the carriers in Canada. The latest order will double its fleet of 787s, “underpinning our growth plans and our commitment to affordable travel options for Canadians from coast to coast and exciting career paths for our people.”
Just a day ago, on September 2, 2025, Boeing unveiled that Macquarie AirFinance had been an unidentified customer that had ordered 30 Boeing 737 MAX 8s in July 2025. As of July 31, 2025, Boeing had secured 699 orders in 2025, including 373 for the 737 MAX, seven of which were assigned to WestJet in May 2025.
